On Thursday, Oct. 2 we had our “Lunch with a Vet” with a full house of happy town residents from down the hill, hosting residents of the Veterans Home. With a program that we started more than two years ago, this was our largest lunch with more than 30 veterans participating.

A huge thank you to all the volunteers who signed up for the lunch and with happy smiles, filled out plates with delicious food, chatted with the vets and made some great friendships.

These lunches are super casual, with a lot of one-on-one interactions. Some of the interactions do not end there, with friendships created that frequently evolve into birthday celebrations, getting together for lunches, dinners, bowling and other fun activities.

Volunteers included: Organizer Iren Jenny; councilmembers Pam Reeves and Hillery Trippe; Stephanie Burdette from Hotel Yountville, as well as Violet Hover, Maureen Grinnell, Chad Forni, Steven Miller, Jan Conn, Judi Hatfield, Tom McCloskey, Frank Campbell, Shea Mixon, Dana and Kevin Dellascio, Jim McDonald, PG Hudson, Rebecca Huetter, Peggy Ahrens, Lynda McDaniel and Ken Rands who are all residents of Yountville or Napa.Friends who had heard about the program and were interested in helping came from Alamo and Walnut Creek were Dean McFarren (who is a veteran) and his wife, Dawn Brannan, and May and Sean Riley (whose father was a veteran).

The next luncheon is going to be “Lunch and Bowling with a Vet.” If you are interested in getting involved, email me at [email protected].
