Letter to the Editor – From ballfields to housing, Yountville can lead the way

Dear Editor,
Because I was part of the grassroots committee to create a football/soccer field with two Little League fields back in the early 1970s, I was asked my view on the plans to create work force rentals for Yountville’s workforce.
That 1970s sports field, when completed, would service three Little League teams, the Yountville Saints Jr. Football team and some soccer games. Our committee showed up with picks and shovels. The Dulinski family showed up with their heavy duty equipment. I asked Bud how our group could help. He responded, “Just keep out of our way.” (Later, however, we did lay the sod.)
I have great memories watching my two kids and their friends compete on that field. But today that seven acre sports field is no longer needed and a proposal to utilize the space as a necessary workforce rental project is now center stage. A wonderful, kind and forward thinking project that will give our restaurants and lodging industries an edge on hiring the best young people for Yountville’s treasured businesses. And how great it will be to have those folks as neighbors.
Anyone who thinks young families with children will someday buy homes in Yountville is just dreaming. It only happens, in my opinion, if the town’s homes would sell for one-half of its value.
You go Yville. You’ve always led the way.
