Letter to the Editor – The Yount Room is the Whistle Stop 2.0

Dear Editor,

I find it interesting that the new Yount Room is basically the Whistle Stop 2.0. For our newer residents the Whistle Stop was the local liquor store in Yountville. It was conveniently just outside the range of the Veterans Home which was not allowed to sell liquor to the veterans.

I believe no liquor could be served within one mile of the Veterans Home. So, the Veterans would walk or wheelchair themselves down to the Whistle Stop for liquor. Eventually the State decided sometime in the 1980s to allow alcohol to be served on site.
