Letter to the Editor – Urgent: Yountville support the Sun, protect local news coverage

Sun Letters to the Editor Graphic

Dear Editor,

(Editor’s note: Letter sent to the Yountville Town Council)

I recently watched a PBS show called “Stripped for Parts: American Journalism on the Brink.” It was about the decrease in newspapers about which we are all aware.  It made a good point about local papers as a necessity to sustain democracy. One topic mentioned was having coverage of local government, which we are fortunate to have at present. We won’t get this coverage from other sources in Napa County.

However, given that the Yountville Sun appears to be hanging on by a thread, I am writing to appeal to the town to strongly consider supporting the paper in some way. The paper is no longer receiving advertising like it once did and I think this change warrants an intervention from our government. To see Yountville become a “news desert” would indeed be tragic.

Please consider this as an urgent request. Thank you so much.
