Beads, brass and bites: Yountville readies for Feb. 7 Mardi Gras celebration

Yountville will host its second annual Mardi Gras Parade and Block Party on Saturday, Feb. 7, offering an afternoon of music, food and family-friendly activities in the Napa Valley inspired by the New Orleans tradition.
The celebration begins with a parade at 1 p.m. along Washington Street, starting from the south end of town. Following the parade, the block party will continue until 4 p.m. with live music, local food vendors and activities for children.
The Gumbo Band is scheduled to headline the event, providing live entertainment throughout the afternoon. Attendees may also purchase food such as po’ boys, gumbo and crepes, along with beverages. To-go drinks will be available from participating north-end tasting rooms and bars.
In advance of the event, the Parks and Recreation Department will host Mardi Gras craft workshops from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31, and Friday, Feb. 6, at the Yountville Community Center. Participants can create masks and other items for the parade.
“This event is all about community, culture and having a great time together,” Yountville Parks and Recreation Director Samantha Holland said.
The Mardi Gras Parade and Block Party is open to the public. For details, visit yountvillemardigras.com or call 707-944-8712.
