Week 18: The Dog Days of Summer
Even in the dog days of summer, 15 teams showed up ready to roll on Monday, Aug. 25. Jack and Ellen Nelson had a flawless evening, sweeping all three matches and celebrating a bellringer from Jack. Mario and Barbara Pirondini matched their success with three wins of their own, including what may have been the fastest match of the night, a swift 8–1 victory over Charles Burke and Nancy Caldwell. Mario added two bellringers to his tally. Sharron O’Neill and Priscilla Hegner also walked away undefeated. Meanwhile, Cheryl Grigsby and Larry Kamer racked up 23 points, and both Jan Horn with Patricia Reis and Mike Murrell with Jim Cherniss finished strong at 22 points apiece. To top it off, Nadine Monroe rolled her fourth bellringer of the season.
On Wednesday, Cindy and Guy Morgan continued their hot streak—three more wins and two bellringers from Cindy. Paula and John Simi weren’t far behind, notching 24 points and one bellringer from Paula. Marilyn Cardone and Kathy Phillips rounded out the night with 19 points, highlighted by Kathy’s bellringer.
Thursday brought nine teams to the courts. Stella Williams and Mike Muters dominated, winning every match. Jeff Brown and Kim Richard followed with 21 points, while bellringers came from Dawn Conley, Renee Garske, Jeff Hartung and Gregg Beach.
As September winds down, the countdown is on to the Bocce Tournament, set for Saturday, Sept. 27. Court managers will soon reach out to confirm the top scorers available to compete. Not in the top five? Don’t worry—you can still take a shot in the Wildcard Shootout for that final tournament spot!
