The death of a woman found dead last week at Bardessono Hotel and Spa in Yountville has been ruled a suicide, the Napa County Sheriff’s Office said on Thursday afternoon.

On Sept. 4, at about 7:20 a.m., Napa County Sheriff’s deputies rushed to Bardessono on Yount Street, after a caller reported a shooting at the exclusive hotel.

The responding deputies found 24-year-old Ahmyiah Iman Pinkney, of Sacramento, dead of a gunshot wound, according to the Napa County Sheriff’s Office. The agency initially said the death was “suspicious.”

A forensic pathologist performed a full autopsy on Tuesday. On Thursday, the Napa County Sheriff’s Office issued a written statement that read, “All evidence found in this case, including suicide notes, indicate this shooting was a self-inflicted injury.”

Pinkney had graduated from UC Davis in June with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, according to a UC Davis spokesman.

The Napa County Sheriff’s Office said detectives, evidence specialists and coroner investigators have conducted “a comprehensive investigation” over the past eight days.

On Sept. 4, the deputies blocked off a wing of the 65-room hotel. The wing remained closed to the public the following day.

Bardessono, where room rates run more than $1,000 a night, has remained open for guests.

Napa County Sheriff’s deputies provide police services to the town of Yountville. The office usually does not issue press releases on suicides, however “due to dozens of requests from the media and public, a press release is being disseminated for clarity and transparency,” Thursday’s statement read.

Anyone struggling with suicidal thoughts should call the National Suicide Hotline at 1-800-273-8255 or call the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at “988”
