Important Week for The Commons
It’s time for the community to pay close attention to the proposed development on the former elementary school property on Yount Street, referred to as The Commons. While we have seen and hopefully been a part of the “visioning” process, there is much about the project, including its full scope and financing, that is unclear. Now is the moment to understand what will be built and how it will be funded.
The town is moving quickly, shifting from conceptual ideas shown to residents into concrete plans and buildings with significant financial impacts. It has been stated that the majority of the housing will be deemed workforce, but also in the mix are small commercial spaces and a boarding house/guest house building, which is a controversial subject that deserves your input.
This is a major undertaking for a community the size of Yountville, and it’s important for all of us to understand how it may affect our town’s future.
Every resident is encouraged to attend one of the upcoming presentations and open house and bring forward your questions. The meetings will be televised, but the Sept. 16 gathering is a casual format study session that presents the opportunity to ask questions directly to staff and council members. This is a short window of opportunity to voice your concerns in the process, and the next opportunity will not be until early 2026 when plans will be much further along.
