Letter to Editor: A season to appreciate Yountville and shape the future
Dear Editor,
Fall is my favorite season in Yountville. We see grapes being harvested and balloons taking off in the cooler climate; we share community gatherings and appreciate the fall colors. Every day I am reminded how fortunate we are to live here.
We enjoy beautiful parks and paths, open space, a dog park and an inviting community center. We have a reliable water source provided by Cal Vet and our largest neighborhood, the Veterans Home. Our roads and strong financial reserves are the envy of the Napa Valley and greater Bay Area. Yountville’s experienced and dedicated town staff provides excellent services and cares deeply about Yountville.
Most small communities do not have a successful Chamber of Commerce, world-renowned restaurants, businesses, owners and staff who contribute significantly to our financial health. If you haven’t seen the Netflix “Chef’s Table: Legends” episode featuring Chef Thomas Keller, then I encourage you to see it.
When the school district decided to sell Yountville Elementary, the town purchased an invaluable public asset for the community to enjoy for years to come. The Commons now includes a dog park, fitness center, lounge, garden and farmstand café. Hopefully, in the near future, we can provide some affordable housing for those who serve our visitors and us. Its future uses and success are in our hands.
Finally, this fall is election season. I encourage residents to ask the mayoral and council candidates to clearly share their interests, values and vision. Sometimes we focus only on our positions and disagreements and don’t consider or discuss our shared interests.
