Letter to the Editor: My closing message to Yountville neighbors

Dear Editor and Yountville neighbors,
As this campaign draws to a close, I’d like to share a few thoughts — looking both back and forward.
Initially, I was a reluctant candidate. My husband Steve and I have planned to travel in the next few years, and a four-year commitment would delay those plans. But after lengthy conversations, we agreed our plans could be postponed for one Town Council term –— and so, I threw my hat in the ring.
Why? Because Yountville needs more business expertise at the council table — and I have meaningful experience to contribute.
My career spans marketing, communications, research, business planning, project management, real estate and investments. I’ve worked with companies large and small, managed projects, teams and budgets and developed my own consulting business.
I believe my skills are directly applicable to the decisions facing Yountville at a pivotal time.
To reiterate my four priorities:
# 1. Rethink Yountville Commons. I support the WHAT and WHO of workforce and affordable housing — but question the WHERE, WHEN, HOW and HOW MUCH. Let’s apply sound business practices: conduct statistically significant research, develop a comprehensive business plan and evaluate alternative locations, including the Veterans Home.
# 2. Generate New Energy. Wine consumption is down; Napa excitement is up. These are risks for Yountville. My business development experience can help identify new retail, activities and events that strengthen Yountville’s economy while preserving its character and charm.
# 3. Engage and Collaborate with All Stakeholders. Residents, businesses, workers, veterans and visitors deserve meaningful input. Ask what people value, want and would change. Then listen — and ACT. Our Veterans Home members deserve stronger advocates, too — perhaps NOISY advocates.
# 4. Demand Fiscal Responsibility, Transparency, and Accountability. These commitments must guide decisions BEFORE they’re made — not after public pressure.
Two core beliefs: Making decisions WITH our community, not FOR it. And in evolutionary, not revolutionary, change — protecting Yountville’s character while preparing for tomorrow.
Let’s think beyond two years — let’s think 20. Twenty years from now, will we be proud of our decisions? Will we have used our resources wisely and left Yountville stronger?
That’s our responsibility — and our opportunity.
I would be honored to earn your vote.
Together, let’s RETHINK WHAT’S POSSIBLE — and let’s get it right.
