Napa Valley Vintners awards $1.8 million for student wellness programs
Napa Valley Vintners has awarded $1.8 million to five local nonprofits providing wellness services on school campuses throughout Napa County.
The funding will support Mentis, Napa Valley Education Foundation, Aldea, On The Move and UpValley Family Centers, which work together to provide services through on-campus wellness centers.
The centers offer students counseling, peer support, connections to additional resources and places to take a break or seek help during the school day.
According to Napa Valley Vintners, 55% of Napa County public high school students use an on-campus wellness center.
“We tend to be their first form of contact with a trusted adult, and students feel comfortable telling us what’s going on in their lives,” Jessica De Leon, a youth outreach coordinator with On The Move at the New Tech High School Wellness Center, said in a statement. “We can then provide students with the support they need.”
The grants are part of Napa Valley Vintners’ broader effort to support the health and well-being of local youth. The organization said additional grants supporting young people after school, at home and elsewhere in the community will be announced in the coming weeks.
Since 1981, funds raised through Auction Napa Valley have supported community programs serving Napa Valley children and families. Napa Valley Vintners said it has contributed $245 million to the local community to date.
