New flood warning system installed on Oak Circle
Walking about town last week, I ran into Yountville Public Works Director John Ferons at the bridge on Oak Circle. He was directing the final steps of an upgrade to the overflow pond, spillway and new warning system installation on Oak Circle.
A new stream gauge was installed on the bridge, which is connected to Napa Valley’s OneRain monitoring system, which will activate warning beacons at the intersection when the water rises.
🟡 Flashing yellow will warn that water is entering the roadway. Use caution.
🔴 Flashing red will mean water levels are too high for vehicles to safely pass through the intersection.
Existing stormwater cameras will also allow residents to check creek conditions remotely rather than traveling to the area during a storm.
The project was directed by the Yountville Town Council in response to more frequent atmospheric river type storms, with funding allocated in the town budget to complete the work.
