Obituary: Robert (Bob) Michael Gligorea
Robert (Bob) Michael Gligorea died on June 10, 2026, following a brief illness. He was 73.
Born in Sheridan, Wyoming, Bob graduated from the University of Wyoming with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s degree in finance. His career took him from Montana to Oregon and Texas before retiring in the Napa Valley.
An avid volunteer, more commonly known as “Volunteer Bob,” his contributions to the community were extensive. Bob volunteered with the V Foundation for Cancer Research, Festival Napa Valley, Napa Valley Vintners, the Yountville Veterans Home and for 12 years at the PGA tournament at Silverado Resort. One of his most treasured volunteer positions was with the Yountville Chamber of Commerce where every Wednesday Bob welcomed visitors and shared recommendations from his wealth of local knowledge. He delighted in controlling the day’s playlist and greeted every two- and four-legged visitor with a smile and a pat.
Bob was also an enthusiastic member of the Yountville Bocce Club. His Monday night team gathered weekly for spirited competition with Bob who was especially thrilled when he had a bellringer. He couldn’t wait to see his name in the Bocce Out column in this paper! He loved the community, the competition and the glory of the win.
A devoted wine lover, Bob belonged to more wine clubs than could be counted including Blankiet, Crocker & Starr, Hudson, Materra, Round Pond and Williams Selyem. He loved the charcuterie and BLT at Journeyman Meat CO., movies at the Cameo, the holiday concert at Inglenook and events at the CIA at Copia.
A compassionate and caring man, Bob will be remembered most for his kindness and generosity. Whether delivering meals to homebound individuals during the holidays, placing wreaths at the Veterans Home Cemetery for Wreaths Across America, dog-sitting for friends or simply being there when someone needed support, Bob was a friend to many. A lifelong lover of dogs, and especially his beloved “wiener dogs,” Bob was never happier than when surrounded by four-legged friends. Surely Bosco, Colbert, Speed Racer and Sam-I-Am were waiting to greet him at the Rainbow Bridge.
Friends will gather to honor Bob and share stories and favorite wines on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 6 p.m. at Gott’s Roadside in St. Helena. Those wishing to attend should RSVP to Betsy Reynard at betsyreynard@gmail.com.
