Bocce, bellringers and bubbly

We were unable to attend bocce on Monday night, but somehow, the sun continued to shine and 13 teams came to play. Jim Cherniss and Mike Murrell had a great night, winning all three of their matches. Giulio and Rosella Giuliani and Mario and Barbara Pirondini were almost perfect with 23 points each. Bruce and Pat Orr ended with 20 points. Only one bellringer was rolled that night by Cheryl Grigsby. Congratulations!

Wednesday night had a great turnout with 14 teams in play. Scoring was kept to six points so that everyone could finish three matches. Jim and Marianne Lyon celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary with champagne for the group. Coincidentally, Court Manager Joel and Sherry Breitigam brought a cake as they were celebrating their 22nd wedding anniversary.

Sherry noted that it was a surprise to learn that they shared a wedding date with their good friends. “You know it’s a good group when couples want to spend their anniversaries with their

bocce friends,” said Sherry. Add in Phil and Lori Wright’s chili mac and cheese, and it was a feast for the Wednesday night crew!

Sherry and Joel Breitigam, Lisa and Robbie Whitham and Steve and Karen Zanetell won all three of their games. Susan Wiechers and Karen Zanetell each celebrated bellringers.

Thursday night was a bellringer festival with Jim Conley, Gregg Beach, Renee Garske, Chris Hartung and Ernie Cabal all rolling bellringers. Stella Williams and Mike Muters won all three of their games. Close behind were Gregg and Robin Beach and Bob and Renee Garske with 23 points each.

And just like that, the first half of the bocce season is over. After a two-week break, play will resume the week of July 14.
