Letter to Editor: Former Mayor Dunbar endorses challenger for mayor

Sun Letters to the Editor Graphic

Dear Editor,

One simple quote used to answer phone calls is all Yountville voters need to know to choose for the best candidate for mayor: “This is Joe. How can I help?”

A U.S. Navy veteran, Joe Tagliaboschi has proudly served others throughout his professional and personal life. Joe was in private construction and civic public works for many years prior to working as Yountville’s public works director for seven years.

As mayor, I experienced firsthand Joe’s dedication to the residents of Yountville, a town he has called home for four decades. Countless times, Joe led his crew’s responses during severe weather, floods, power outages, and while delivering reliable public services for town residents and businesses.

In 2022, Joe stepped forward and was chosen to fill an open seat on the Yountville Town Council, where he served with honesty, integrity, fairness and respect for his role as a public servant.

Even after retiring from his job with the town, his public service didn’t stop. Joe was hired to be the city manager of the northern California coastal city of Trinidad, a place where Joe and his wife, Kathy, had grown to love after visiting for many years. Family circumstances led him to return to Yountville full-time after serving one year in that leadership position.

I applaud Joe also for continuing his community engagement on Yountville’s Pioneer Cemetery Association board, his neighborhood HOA and other local service organizations.

As he stands up to serve as Yountville’s mayor, I know Joe will bring back responsible fiscal management, explore all viable housing options that are affordable to multiple income levels, including the caregivers of town residents living at the Veterans Home, and he will embrace engagement and feedback from all town residents and business owners.

Having served as mayor for 12 years, I understand the personal commitment and professional characteristics that are critical for effective and honorable leadership. Joe has displayed those skills throughout his military, private sector and public service.

Joe is passionate, considerate and extremely supportive of his family, friends, fellow veterans and neighbors. That includes his canine sidekick, Dashie!

I encourage you to vote: Joe T for Mayor of Yountville.
