Letter to the Editor – When Yountville stepped up for Napa Valley

Sun Letters to the Editor Graphic

Dear Editor,

Flood Control was passed by only 385 votes. Yountville was, at a 72% yes, the only municipal to vote over the 66 2/3 threshold.

Paul Battisti ran the meetings masterfully with the board consisting of two representatives from each city.

At one point he asked the board to raise funds to promote Yes on Flood Control. The advertising was paid for by a Mustard Festival event held at Robert Mondavi Winery. It was called the Napa Valley Monopoly Game and raised $10,000.

Although Yountville had a financially moderate amount of funding for flood control, it generously supported the project for the greater good of its neighbors.

Bill Dutton and I sat on that committee at Mayor Mary Lou Holt’s request and were never more proud of Yountville than at the moment the vote was totaled.
