North Block Restaurant becomes neighborly with new menu, Sunday supper

Yountville’s North Block Restaurant is returning to its neighborhood roots with a refreshed menu, new culinary direction and a weekly Sunday supper series designed to offer a more relaxed approach to dining and appeal to locals.

Previously known as The Restaurant at North Block, the Washington Street restaurant is shifting away from a more formal dining model in favor of seasonal dishes, wood-fired pizzas, house-made pastas, cocktails and a wine program emphasizing California producers.

Chef Antonio Natal, a Napa Valley native, is leading the kitchen by drawing on his Latin and Italian heritage. The menu emphasizes seasonal ingredients, with seafood, salads, wood-fired dishes, pizzas and pastas.

The restaurant’s pizzas are made with the same sourdough starter used by Redd Wood, the restaurant formerly located in the space.

Seasonal dishes include an heirloom tomato and watermelon salad with marinated cucumbers, feta and pistachio crunch; fennel sausage and potato pizza with mozzarella, Parmesan cream, rosemary and chili crisp; Brentwood white corn caramelle filled with ricotta and served with corn cream, peppers, cherry tomatoes and aged Parmesan; and a roasted half chicken with purple cauliflower puree, Sungold tomatoes, summer squash and basil salmoriglio.

Longtime Napa bartender Coy Estes developed the restaurant’s cocktail program, which ranges from fruit- and floral-driven drinks to nonalcoholic options. Cocktails include the Metropolitano, made with Meyer lemon vodka, limoncello, passion fruit-black pepper syrup and cranberry juice, and the Somme Approved, featuring Zinfandel barrel American whiskey, rye Grenache barrel whiskey, Chardonnay butter syrup and orange bitters.

The wine list focuses on Napa Valley, Sonoma and other California producers, supplemented by selections from Spain and Italy.

North Block has also introduced a Sunday Supper Series, offering a three-course dinner for $49 per person. Diners can choose an appetizer, pizza or pasta entree and dessert, with selections changing monthly.

Located at 6757 Washington St., North Block Restaurant serves dinner from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 5 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. A limited “Happiest Hour” menu is offered daily from 3 to 6 p.m. Stop in or make reservations via OpenTable.
